Nails of the Day: Magenta

Barry M Nail Paint: Rose Quartz Glitter | Revlon: Extravagant

This Revlon nail polish is a beautiful metallic magenta shade and I had to take these pictures when I found some matching flowers in a cafe! I added an accent glitter nail polish for a bit of sparkle. I think you either love or hate this but I think it’s fun and mixes up a plain manicure sometimes. I find the finish of metallic nail polishes aren’t as smooth and they don’t last as long, but I do like the metallic-ness! After two coats of the colour and one coat of the glitter polish, I used my Revlon Quick-dry top coat for protection and shine.

What do you think of this colour and the glitter accent? I’d love to read your thoughts! XO

W7 In The Nude Review

image

imageI’ve had the Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette on my wishlist for a while now, but since I’m trying hard not to spend too much I decided to settle for the dupe instead. I purchased this W7 In The Nude eyeshadow palette from Amazon for around £5.60 which is such good value for so many shades. I own the original Naked palette and I couldn’t help but compare the two, even though I wasn’t expecting the W7 to be quite as good quality-wise, since it was a fraction of the price.

The eyeshadows come in a tin case which reminds me of the pencil cases I used to have in school! I like the rose gold packaging, and I don’t mind that it seems a little cheap (because it was!) It comes with a small brush and sponge applicator – I only use the brush end, which is good for precise application, especially for the lower lashline. I use a separate fluffier brush for blending. On the back of the tin are little images of the shades along with their names.

I chose this palette over the other W7 palettes for the more pinky tones and as you can see from the photos above, the palette consists of 12 shades, ranging from cream to pink to brown to dark purple. There are both matte and shimmery shades which would all compliment each other, so you can mix and match to create so many different looks. Some of them are really pretty and the ones that stood out to me straight away include Angel, a glittery pale pink, Copper Pot which is a shimmery light pink, Sun Kissed, a shimmery soft golden shade and Alice which is a beautiful matte mauve. I can definitely see myself using all of the colours.

The formula of these eyeshadows are good, although I’ve found them to be not quite as creamy or pigmented as the Naked palette, but they are buildable and just about as good – I don’t think most people would see a difference in quality to be honest.

Below are two different looks I created using the W7 palette.

image

For this first look I used Copper Pot over the whole lid, Alice on the outer corner and then dabbed Angel over the middle using my ring finger, before using a fluffy brush to blend the edges.

For this second look I applied Sunkissed over the whole lid and then Coffee Cup on the outer corner and a little under the lower lashes, then highlighted my brow bone with Latte.

Overall I’m really happy with In The Nude and it has some fantastic shades at good quality, and it’s such great value! I’ve found the shadows to be long-lasting too. If you’re thinking about buying this palette or any of the other W7 palettes I recommend you do, I’m sure you won’t regret it.

I hope you enjoyed this review and found it helpful in some way. Do you own any W7 eyeshadow palettes? Thank you for reading! XO

3 ‘Perfect Red’ Lipsticks

I’m so excited to be guest posting on Bethany’s blog, SimplyBethany.  It’s a great fashion and beauty blog, I love her casual/girly style. If you are regular readers of hers hello and I hope you enjoy this post!

imageElizabeth Arden Red Door Red, YSL Rouge Volupte Shine no.4, Revlon Really Red

When I was searching for a ‘Perfect Red’ lipstick I knew I wanted to find a true, classic Hollywood red. I wanted to treat myself, so I looked around a department store (House of Fraser) and sampled a few. I tried on YSL Volupte Shine number 4 and it was quite sheer and didn’t totally win me over but I must admit I bought it for the gorgeous packaging. I then searched on the Internet for a matte red lipstick and read so many great reviews on Revlon Really Red that I had to go and purchase one! I was happy with my two red lipsticks, but the Elizabeth Arden Red Door Red came in a set that I bought, which I really got for the eyeshadows, but turns out I love it!

imageHere are the swatches, as you can see they are all very true reds.

1. The top one is Red Door Red and I think it may be my favourite, as it’s the most vibrant and I love the feel of it on my lips, although I do really like the other two. It has a lovely smooth texture and shine, and I find it to be quite long-lasting.

2. The YSL one in the middle is sheer when worn on its own, but it bleeds so you must wear lip liner! It isn’t as sheer with red lipliner underneath, but I guess if a nude lip liner was used it would look more so . This lipstick doesn’t last very long, and it feels slippery on the lips but it leaves a kind of stain which I quite like, and I don’t mind reapplying. The other thing I don’t like about it is that it can look a bit patchy if you have dry lips, which I do! This is the shiniest of the three and the tube is the prettiest.

3. The third swatch is Revlon Really Red, which is a more classic matte red, and I love the way it looks, it feels comfortable on my lips and it lasts for ages. This is also the most affordable one.

I use Rimmel Exaggerate lip liner in Diva Red, pictured below, for all three lipsticks, lining then filling in my lips before applying lipstick straight from the tube. Make sure you put a clean finger in your mouth and pull it out so you don’t get lipstick on your teeth!

imageHere are some photos of me wearing the three lipsticks below. If you’re not into red lipsticks you probably think they all look the same! And they do look very similar, especially since I’m wearing the same lipliner for all three but there are slight differences.

I love red lipstick and even though I don’t wear it every day when I do I kind of feel empowered and very sophisticated! I never used to wear bright lipsticks, let alone red but as I’ve gotten older I don’t feel as self-conscious, and I don’t worry about what others think as much, and now love having fun and experiment more with lip colours. I really believe anyone can pull off a red lipstick, as long as you find a shade that works for you, it may be a darker red or a more pink or orange toned red. Try on some different shades at a department store and ask the sales ladies to help! I think the three lipsticks that I own would suit any skintone, however.

Thanks so much for reading and I hope you enjoyed this post! I’d love to hear your thoughts. Thanks again to Bethany for letting me guest post 🙂 XO
