The Only Lip Liner You’ll Ever Need?

Wow, I can’t believe it’s been a month since I last blogged – you know how you procrastinate, then procrastinate some more, then plan to do something soon but never get around to doing it? Yep, that’s me! But I’m pleased to say we’ve moved into our new place, I’ve unpacked most of our things and we’re settling in to a new routine (Lizzy has stopped her daytime naps at 26 months – bad as now I have literally no time to myself during the days but good as she now falls asleep by herself at a reasonable hour and stays in her bed the entire night, yippee! But I digress…) The point is, I am ready to get back into blogging and although I’m not one for having a set schedule for posts I’ll try to blog once or twice a week.

Anyway, onto the topic as the title suggests…

I decided to look for a clear lip liner recently as I have a couple of lipsticks that I know ‘bleed’ without using a liner, one of which is a sheer but true red (YSL Rouge Volupte Shine no.4) and the other a hot pink (Makeup Revolution Barbie is Jealous). I have a red lip liner (Rimmel Diva Red) but I don’t like the way it ultimately alters the colour of the lipstick, especially if I fill in my lips with the liner before applying the lipstick – which I kind of have to as if I don’t I would end up with an unsightly outline because the lipstick is sheer. Also the reason I like this particular lipstick is because it’s sheer, and I want to keep it that way – using lip liner underneath defeats this purpose. And I don’t have a pink lip liner to go with my pink lipstick, so I thought I’d save money and kill two birds with one stone by trying a clear lip liner, and how can you go wrong with a £1 product?

So, introducing MUA’s Anti bleed Lip Liner in Clear. Did I mention it’s only £1? The pencil’s lid comes with a built-in sharpener, which I love – I think all make-up pencils should come with these! The lip liner itself is soft and goes on smoothly, and because it’s clear, you obviously can’t see it when it’s on. I apply it on and just around my lip line, then put a little lip balm on before applying lipstick straight from the tube. Some people may prefer to use a lip brush for really precise application but for me I find applying from the tube is fine, plus it’s much quicker. I’ve tested this lip liner twice now with both of my lipsticks that bleed after about an hour without any lip liner on, and I’m happy to say that it does the job perfectly well, no bleeding even after more than four hours! Now I can use any lipstick shade with confidence, knowing that it won’t end up looking like I’ve smudged it all around my mouth. And I really think I won’t be needing a coloured lip liner ever again!

All in all, a fantastic product that works, and such a bargain at that 😉

I hope you found this post helpful, have you tried a clear lip liner? Thank you so much for reading! XO

How to dress up a Slogan T-shirt

 T-shirt | Skirt | Shoes

Slogan t-shirts are everywhere right now, and there are endless ways to wear them, from super casual to dressy. I thought I’d share one way in which to dress up this cute slogan t-shirt from New Look. Actually this whole outfit is from New Look! (apart from the bag which I borrowed from my sister) I love how their stuff is so on trend yet affordable.

Step 1. Pencil skirt – I think this midi style is so feminine and flattering. A plain brightly coloured one or a floral skirt would also look great. (See my floral midi pencil skirt outfit here)

Step 2. Add pointed heels. I’ve been looking for an affordable pair of leopard print pointy heels for ages and these are only £19,99! I needed to buy heel grips for these as my heels kept slipping out, anyone else have that problem?

Step 3. Add a cute bag. For a night out I prefer small bags that still have enough room for all the essentials, this one was borrowed from my sister and has a cute silver star detail.

It’s as easy as that! Looking back at the outfit I realise I probably should have worn more accessories, I was wearing my pearl stud earrings but you can’t see them in the photos. A statement necklace would have looked great although I’m more of a dainty jewellery kind of girl.

Above are a couple of pictures of the details – the lip liner I used is Rimmel Exaggerate Diva Red and the lipstick is my favourite red: Elizabeth Arden Red Door Red.

3 ‘Perfect Red’ Lipsticks

I’m so excited to be guest posting on Bethany’s blog, SimplyBethany.  It’s a great fashion and beauty blog, I love her casual/girly style. If you are regular readers of hers hello and I hope you enjoy this post!

imageElizabeth Arden Red Door Red, YSL Rouge Volupte Shine no.4, Revlon Really Red

When I was searching for a ‘Perfect Red’ lipstick I knew I wanted to find a true, classic Hollywood red. I wanted to treat myself, so I looked around a department store (House of Fraser) and sampled a few. I tried on YSL Volupte Shine number 4 and it was quite sheer and didn’t totally win me over but I must admit I bought it for the gorgeous packaging. I then searched on the Internet for a matte red lipstick and read so many great reviews on Revlon Really Red that I had to go and purchase one! I was happy with my two red lipsticks, but the Elizabeth Arden Red Door Red came in a set that I bought, which I really got for the eyeshadows, but turns out I love it!

imageHere are the swatches, as you can see they are all very true reds.

1. The top one is Red Door Red and I think it may be my favourite, as it’s the most vibrant and I love the feel of it on my lips, although I do really like the other two. It has a lovely smooth texture and shine, and I find it to be quite long-lasting.

2. The YSL one in the middle is sheer when worn on its own, but it bleeds so you must wear lip liner! It isn’t as sheer with red lipliner underneath, but I guess if a nude lip liner was used it would look more so . This lipstick doesn’t last very long, and it feels slippery on the lips but it leaves a kind of stain which I quite like, and I don’t mind reapplying. The other thing I don’t like about it is that it can look a bit patchy if you have dry lips, which I do! This is the shiniest of the three and the tube is the prettiest.

3. The third swatch is Revlon Really Red, which is a more classic matte red, and I love the way it looks, it feels comfortable on my lips and it lasts for ages. This is also the most affordable one.

I use Rimmel Exaggerate lip liner in Diva Red, pictured below, for all three lipsticks, lining then filling in my lips before applying lipstick straight from the tube. Make sure you put a clean finger in your mouth and pull it out so you don’t get lipstick on your teeth!

imageHere are some photos of me wearing the three lipsticks below. If you’re not into red lipsticks you probably think they all look the same! And they do look very similar, especially since I’m wearing the same lipliner for all three but there are slight differences.

1. Elizabeth Arden Red Door Red | 2. YSL Rouge Volupte Shine no.4 | 3. Revlon Really Red

I love red lipstick and even though I don’t wear it every day when I do I kind of feel empowered and very sophisticated! I never used to wear bright lipsticks, let alone red but as I’ve gotten older I don’t feel as self-conscious, and I don’t worry about what others think as much, and now love having fun and experiment more with lip colours. I really believe anyone can pull off a red lipstick, as long as you find a shade that works for you, it may be a darker red or a more pink or orange toned red. Try on some different shades at a department store and ask the sales ladies to help! I think the three lipsticks that I own would suit any skintone, however.

Thanks so much for reading and I hope you enjoyed this post! I’d love to hear your thoughts. Thanks again to Bethany for letting me guest post 🙂 XO
